As a senior captain and a four-year starter behind the plate for the Binghamton University’s Bearcats, I took advantage of every moment of my time in college baseball, an experience I first dreamed about as a Little Leaguer.
Turning my hopes into reality, though, took more than hard work on the field. The recruiting process was not something I was familiar with, and I assumed high school coaches would provide exposure to college scouts. I thought going to showcases was all that was necessary to be seen by college coaches.
I was wrong.
Once I started working with CST, I realized it wasn’t as easy as I thought. There was a lot more to being recruited by a college coach, and we needed the expertise of someone like Mr. Hanson to guide us through to find the perfect fit.
I learned that it’s important for an athlete to find a college that offers not only the right academic path but also a team provide that can provide playing time.
And, in these tough economics times the scholarship was very beneficial. Obtaining a scholarship helped to reduce college loans, and it gave me an additional sense of self worth.
After four years catching for the Bearcats, I could not imagine attending college without playing a sport. Even though it is difficult to balance school work and travel, being part of a team provides a feeling of fitting in. You make new friends, become great teammates, and enjoy the good times.
