I think that my entire college experience would be diminished without the opportunity to be a part of a college team. I’ve played baseball all of my life, and it is an important part of my life. Playing baseball in college will provide an opportunity to develop new friendships. It will help me develop traits such as commitment, multi-tasking, and time management. I will be required to maintain high academic standards while being a member of the team.
Learning to Reach My Goals
I know, though, I need to work hard to reach my goals. I always assumed college coaches would find me by word-of-mouth, by my play in national tournaments and by my presence in national showcases. At some point, I thought they would offer me a scholarship. With the help of the College Sports Track, I learned that I must be proactive, because I can not rely on a chance that a college coach will see me play in high school.
A Plan to Pursue College Coaches
Instead, I learned that I needed to aggressively pursue college coaches. I developed a personal website, profile, reference list and pitching video. We put together a list of colleges in which I have a great interest. I will contact many coaches through my website, emails, phone calls and campus visits. Most importantly, I have learned that I must take control of my future. I also learned to focus on more than sports.
Choosing the Right College
Choosing the right program, along with the right fit for me academically, will be an important challenge. And, I understand that each college program and each college coach has a unique philosophy. With the College Sports Track, I’m am learning to make the correct decision for me.
I come from a middle-class, working family. As I look at colleges, I clearly understand the expense that my parents could face. We are extremely excited about the prospect of attending college with a scholarship. I have dreamed of playing college sports since I first played baseball as a 5-year-old.
I intend on making the most of that experience, and I realize how very proud my family will be of me reaching my goal.
